“If you don’t want to see me smoking then you better find a way to keep my lips busy”
My ex-boyfriend always gives me a grin whenever I light up a cigarette, I don’t know why but he hates the fact that I’m a smoker. I ended up breaking up with him because that. I’m not really proud of it but I can consume 40-60 sticks of cigarette per day depending on my mood, my activities and who do I interact with.
For the sake of this homework I will share some of the things people close to me did to make me stop from smoking. Let’s start with mother. (1) Mother always brings me to this youth fellowship where I get to interact with young adults who live their life without neither alcohol nor cigarettes. By the way mother stopped smoking at the age of 30 for no apparent reason and her efforts in making me quit smoking failed. Sometimes we talk about the amount of money I spend in cigarettes, she’s kind of happy that sin tax will be applied in the country but I told her that my credit card will serve its purpose when that happens. (2) My sister’s way is somehow trickier. I usually buy a ream of cigarettes and stock them in our cabinet. So what she’ll do is to take some packs (of Marlboro , hide it away from me — thus lessening my intake of nicotine. The not so good thing about her method is the cigarettes she steals from me, she consumes it. (sigh) So the less I smoke, the more she does. (3) My ex boyfriend’s way is what I think the best way to keep me away from smoking. It’s far less than wholesome but boy oh boy I’m blown away. In fact, I think I have been blown somewhere else (in heaven — LOL). I must say when you are the orally fixated type of guy, a special someone would come in really handy. Any verb with -ing that involves lips will definitely a catch. But then again, this method is only good whilst your boyfriend lasts.
I can still vividly emblazoned the first day I puffed a cigar, the first bridge, the first inhale, the first cough, the first exhale, the first trick, the first time my lips touched the first cigarette butt. It was nostalgic. I fell in love with cigarette and in few weeks time.. I, became a chain smoker. At the age of 16, I started smoking. And mind you, the money I spent on buying those cigars aren’t from my parents pocket. I believe that you’re only allowed to indulge in vices if you can shell that out from your own pocket. Hiding it from my classmates, close friends and parents is the trickiest part since I always have to bring a mouth wash, breath freshener, a sanitizer, hair leave on, facial wipes and a base note perfume. What a pain. So please dont generalize that all smokers are not hygienic Yes, it is true that my skin became prone to pimples and impurities because of smoking but that’s ecosystem. Had it not for me smoking, who will the dermatologist treat? Who would also dare say one cant love someone with dirty lungs? Oh honey, I did find love, flings and a whole lot more. Yes, smoking kills but we’re all gonna die anyway. aren’t we? Smoker or not, that’s how we’ll all end up.
Honestly, I don’t want to do this homework. Wont I be fooling myself by telling everyone tips on how to stop smoking when I couldn’t do them myself? That it has already been tested and failed to create an impact. I have been reading my classmates’ homework and I find it absurd that they think of smokers/smoking that way. It’s as if they’re the catholic church and smoking is homosexuality. Couldn’t we also discuss the good things smoking can give? Because believe it or not, there is or should I say there ARE! Lastly, they say buying a stick of cigarette is not “sulit” but do you know that a cigarette contains arsenic, formaldehyde, lead, hydrogen cyanide, nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, ammonia and 43 known carcinogens. Can you name me a single product that gives this much chemicals (?) that cost only 2-3 pesos (well, for the time being) None, right? So “sulit” is an understatement.
